Welcome to Freegate Armory.

Freegate Armory produces authentically styled crossbows for Medieval and Renaissance enthusiasts and reenactors. Our crossbows derive their classic form and appearance from Old European designs, and make use of modern engineering materials and select hardwoods. Our products include affordable notch lock crossbows that are suitable for target shooting and SCA Combat Archery, and elegant roller lock crossbows with hand carved tillers and superior finish. We also create custom crossbows, offering a wide selection of features and hardwoods.

The company is owned and run by John Wilson, who is also known in the Society for Creative Anachronism as Maxton Gunn. John has been a designer and builder of quality weaponry, both traditional and modern, for over 20 years. Examples of his work can be found on today's battlefield, in the hands of law enforcement agencies worldwide, and on display at your local hunting goods store.
