Freegate Armory introduces the Owlstrike
Crossbow!
Notch lock crossbows were known in Scandinavia and West Africa
as early as the 15th Century, and became popular throughout Europe
by the 17th Century. Freegate Armory's adaptation of this ancient
design delivers authentic good looks and accuracy at a price
everyone can afford! Its draw weight of approximately 65 pounds
is perfect for Royal Round target competition, and its notch
lock mechanism means that it is fast to reload for those timed
targets! The Owlstrike Crossbow is capable of launching both
conventional bolts and some types of SCA combat bolts. It sports
a hand wrapped cord bridle for a proper Medieval appearance.
The Owlstrike Crossbow comes with three conventional bolts.
Due to varying regional standards,
Freegate Armory does not offer SCA combat bolts of any description,
nor does Freegate Armory make any claim that any of its products
are suitable for any specific combat archery event. It is the
responsibility of each participant to determine the suitability
of his or her equipment for each event.
* Figures shown are approximate. It is important
to know when you compare crossbows, and particularly when you
choose a bow for combat archery, that there are two popular ways
to approximate bolt energy, and that they give two wildly different
answers. Both methods are shown here. Know which equation was
used to write the rules before choosing a bow for competition.
